Centre-based day respite provides opportunities for people with a life-limiting illness to socialise, take part in activities and outings and to be be pampered, as well as giving their carer a break during the day.
Our clients (who we call guests) are cared for by qualified staff and trained, caring volunteers, as if they were a guest in our own home. Much more than just a place to pass the time of day, our services are tailored to the needs of the individual, to help improve their quality of life, and for them to take time out to focus on themselves rather than their illness.
We only take a small number of guests each day so we can provide the most attentive care and build meaningful and supportive relationships with our guests and their carers.
Our centres provide a home-like environment where guests can enjoy:
Tailored activities matched to their abilities and interests, including excursions
A home-cooked morning tea and lunch
Time for social interaction and relaxation
Complementary therapies including Reiki and massage
Personalised, focused care
Fernlea has two day respite centres, one in Emerald and the other in Berwick.
Fernlea House in Emerald is open Tuesday to Friday, and Stephenson House in Berwick is open on Friday, both from 10am to 3pm. Guests can come to either or both of our centres.
