There are many ways to get involved and support Fernlea House. Here are some of the options:

1.  BECOME A VOLUNTEER

  • Target Audience
    • people over 18 with the required attributes
  • Attributes include
    • mature minded, responsible, interest in palliative care, good communication, empathy, sense of humour, emotionally stable, willing to commit to regular work, like having fun and helping others.
  • Prerequisites
    • Attend interviews, training and induction
    • Commit to volunteer for 12 months
    • Attend regular continuing training and education sessions

    • Feel valued for your contribution
  • Why do it?
    • You are helping to improve the quality of life for people with life limiting illnesses, their carers and families

2.  BECOME A MEMBER OF FERNLEA HOUSE INC

  • Target audience – anyone over the age of 18
  • Cost - $20 per annum.
  • Prerequisites
    • an interest in what Fernlea House does
  • Benefits
    • Get priority notification and invitations to events & activities
  • Why do it?
    • Be part of this great community organisation
    • Sustain a community service for the community
  • How?
    • Print off and complete a Membership Nomination Form and send it to Fernlea House at PO BOX 117, Emerald VIC 3782.
    • Payment will be requested upon approval from the Board of Directors.

3.  JOIN THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

  • Target audience – a Fernlea House Inc. Member, with skills to support Fernlea’s Governance.
  • Prerequisites
    • An interest in Fernlea House
    • Skills to offer the Board (Eg. finance, marketing, planning, legal, chairing, fundraising, HR, management, administration etc)
    • Previous experience in a community organisation (an advantage but not required)
    • Access to internet and email.
    • Able to commit some time each month for meetings
  • Benefits
    • Becoming part of a committed team of people
    • Strong management support for BOD
    • Feeling good about helping to keep such services in the hills.
    • Makes you feel worthwhile
  • Why do it?
    • To share your experience and expertise for the benefit of the community
    • Help support the increased demand for services
  • How?

    • Nominate for a position at the AGM

4.  MAKE a DONATION

  • A one off donation over $2 is tax deductible and receipts will be sent for tax purposes.
  • See the DONATE HERE button on the home page of the website (in the top right hand corner).
  • Via Direct Deposit.  Please contact Kelly at the Fernlea Office for our account information.
  • Pop in and see one of the friendly staff at Fernlea House with your donation.

5.  MAKE a REGULAR DONATION

  • Regular donations are also tax deductible, and receipts will be sent for your tax purposes
  • Regular donations can be made on the DONATE HERE button on the home page of the website (in the top right hand corner).
  • Via Direct Deposit.  Please contact Kelly at the Fernlea Office for our account information
  • Send in a cheque.

6.  HOW YOUR DONATION CAN HELP

  • $2 – box of tissues
  • $5 – box of tea bags, ream of paper, a sheet of craft stickers or a bottle of hand sanitiser
  • $10 – a birthday cake for a guest or a box of bathroom hand towels
  • $25 – guest transport expenses
  • $50 – 50 stamps, craft paint or canvasses
  • $100 – 1 months gardening or morning tea and lunch for a day
  • $250 – cover costs for one guest for a day
  • $500 – pay the phone bill for a month
  • $800 – service the bus or purchase a new vacuum cleaner
  • $1000 –pay a plumber to install sink on back veranda for guest outdoor gardening activities
  • $1500 – purchase a new computer
  • $3000 – install drainage and concrete carport
  • $6000 – cover in walkway canopy to keep our guests dry to their transport
  • In Memory Gifts & Bequests

In today’s world, people often like to give In Memory Gifts when a loved one has passed away or to remember them on a special anniversary.
Fernlea House can provide envelopes at the funeral service and send a card to the family acknowledging the gifts received.  Individual tax receipts can be sent to each person donating.
