There are many ways to get involved and support Fernlea House. Here are some of the options and suggestions.
1. BECOME A MEMBER:
- Degree of Difficulty – EASY
- Target audience – anyone over the age of 18
- Cost - $10 per annum.
- Prerequisites – an interest in what Fernlea House does
- Benefits
- Receive Newsletter First (especially if by email)
- Get Priority Notification and invitations to events & activities
- Why do it?
- Be part of this great community organisation
- Share the “Living, Laughing and Loving” of Fernlea House
- Sustain a REAL community service for the community
- How?
- Print off and complete a membership form and send to Fernlea House. (We still need real signatures)
- A receipt will be send back to you.
2. JOIN THE COMMITTEE OF MANAGEMENT
- Degree of Difficulty - MEDIUM
- Target audience – people with skills to support Fernlea’s Governance.
- Cost – Membership @ $10 per annum
- Prerequisites:
- An interest in Fernlea House
- Skills to offer the Committee (eg finance, marketing, planning, legal, Chairing, fundraising, etc)
- Previous experience in a community organisation (an advantage)
- Access to internet and email.
- Able to commit some time each month for meetings
- Benefits:
- Becoming part of a committed team of people
- Strong management support for COM
- Feeling good about helping to keep such services in the hills.
- Makes you feel worthwhile
- Why do it?
- To share your experience and expertise for the benefit of the community
- Help support the increased demand for services
- Get knowledge about this and other services for your own benefit, in case you or your family needs them.
- How?
- Contact one of the Committee members, or the Manager to discuss.
- Nominate for a position at the AGM
- Ring the office and request the required forms.
3. BECOME A VOLUNTEER
- Degree of Difficulty - HARD or RIGOROUS (There’s a challenge for you)
- Target Audience – people over 18 with the required attributes
- Attributes include: mature minded, responsible, interest in palliative care, good communication, empathy, sense of humour, emotionally stable, willing to commit to regular work, like having fun and helping others.
- Cost: Membership @ $10 per annum
- Prerequisites:
- Attend a preliminary interview
- Attend basic 4 day palliative care training
- Attend further training if needed (eg transport, Ferns, memoirs)
- Attend a post training interview
- Begin volunteering with a Mentor
- Commit to work for 12 months
- Attend regular continuing education sessions (also fun things)
- Benefits:
- A great deal of satisfaction
- A high level of fulfillment
- Having fun (dress up for themes)
- Meets lots of great people
- Feel part of the team
- Feel valued for your contribution
- Why do it?
- You are helping to improve the quality of life for people with life limiting illnesses, their carers and families,
- To share your interests and experience with others
- Support people in your local community
- To meet others and feel part of a wonderful life journey

4. MAKE a DONATION
- A One off donation over $2 is tax deductible.
- Receipts will be sent for tax purposes

5. MAKE a REGULAR DONATION
- Regular donations are also tax deductible, and can be made through direct debit from your bank, or sending in a cheque.

In Memory Gifts & Bequests
In today’s world, people often like to give In Memory Gifts when a loved one has passed away or to remember them on a special anniversary.
Your gift, whether large or small, will help us continue to provide the extra services that make Fernlea House a special place of living, laughing and loving.
Donations of $2.00 and over are tax deductible.
W can provide envelopes at the funeral service and send a card to the family acknowledging the gifts received. Individual tax receipts and a letter of thanks are sent to each person thanking them for their contribution.
